ViaCell halts trial of expanded CBT
Feb 2007
ViaCell, the parent company of ViaCord, closed their "CB001" phase I clinical trial of
transplanting expanded cord blood. The trial was suspended by the FDA in May 2005 after 2 of 8 patients developed acute
Graft-versus-Host Disease (aGVHD; both recovered). After review, ViaCell felt
that the format of the trial was not an effective test of expansion
methods and it would be better to close it.
